What is Hour of Code?

Hour of Code is a  campaign to introduce everyone to the basics of computer programming in a fun way.  Sign up here to participate in at least one hour of code during the week. Give your students an opportunity to try it out and see that coding is easy and fun.

Why Should Students Learn Coding?

Students know how to use technology to consume information, communicate, and play. Future careers will require them to use technology to be creators and innovators. Technology is not a stand alone field.  It will continue to be intertwined in every career and every area of our lives.  Having a basic understand of computer science will help our students to be competitive and give them opportunities to feel empowered as they bring their new ideas to life.

Coding allows students to explore and experiment with hands-on, discovery learning opportunities. Coding incorporates literacy skills such as connecting, sequencing, and communicating. Skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and all 8 of the Mathematical Practice Standards are also involved.  Ignite thinking with an Hour of Code.
